Learn more about The GLP-1 Solution by L. McDonald | Maximize Fat Loss
In recent years, the topic of the GLP-1s, drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepound and others has taken the forefront of the discussion of the treatment of overweight and obesity. And understandably so, given that they represent the first true improvement on the issue. For a field that has, for decades, failed to achieve its goals of helping people to lose weight and fat and, more importantly, to keep it off, the GLP-1s have truly changed the game.
But while many articles hold the GLP-1s as magical compounds, others decry them for various reasons (which all fundamentally come down to rationalizing moralistic beliefs about overweight and obesity). Side effects are continually overemphasized and reported in such a way as to make the GLP-1s sound much worse than they are. People are confused, bewildered, misled and scared in equal amounts. Someone needed to set the record straight and I figured it might as well be me. So I set out to write a comprehensive book on the topic of the GLP-1s.
This is that book.
In it you’ll learn everything you need to know about the GLP-1s. That includes the science behind them, their development, how they work along with a look at the potential side effects. I discuss the issue of weight loss variability in response to the compounds along with how the GLP-1s interact with lifestyle changes. Finally I address the issue of long-term weight maintenance and the role of exercise.
Following that detailed look, the rest of the book will show you how to optimize your nutrition program to get the most out of the compounds. You’ll learn about body composition and how to apply it to set up your nutrition and exercise program. I’ll explain basic nutrition to you as well as laying out a hierarchy of nutrients, which must be included in an optimal GLP-1 diet program for maximal results.
After an introduction to exercise I’ll walk you through how to set up your GLP-1 diet. Determining your maintenance calories, setting the calorie deficit and, most critically of all, determining your optimal protein intakes. Then you’ll find out how to include the other nutrients into your diet and set everything up. The discussion finishes off with some suggested dietary supplements, many of which can help to limit the side effects of the GLP-1s.
For those who are interested, I’ll also describe an extreme dietary approach that can generate up to 28 lbs of true fat loss in only 12 weeks (results that outperform GLP-1 only weight loss alone) before looking at the practicalities of using the GLP-1s themselves. That includes dosing and escalation/de-escalation schedules, how to do the actual injection, how to deal with travel and so much more. That chapter includes a lot of tips and tricks for using the GLP-1s while avoiding the negatives. Tips and tricks that nobody talks or even knows about.
For those who want to implement exercise, I include basic guidelines, progressions and some routines. The book wraps up by looking at the issue of weight and fat loss plateaus, how to distinguish between apparent and real plateaus along with a discussion of what causes them. You’ll learn how to break those plateaus to keep fat loss moving before learning about the best ways to maintain your weight and fat loss in the long-term.
And finally, in a special appendix that nobody but me could write, I’ll discuss how lean athletes could use the GLP-1s to reach their goals, information you won’t find anywhere else.
Whether you’re already on a GLP-1 and trying to improve your results, considering using a GLP-1 and want to have all the facts or are a coach or trainer who works with people using GLP-1s, The GLP-1 Solution will answer every question you might have had along with a few you didn’t even know to ask.
About the Author:
I began my foray into the fitness and health field in 1985 when I got into cycling, swimming and triathlon. I would get involved in gymnastics my senior year of high school and this led me to UCLA to pursue a degree in Kinesiology (exercise physiology). During that time I became interested in the science of sports performance including nutrition, training, and supplementation. I was really trying to fix myself.
During that time I got involved in the growing sport of inline skating (rollerblading) and raced for many years. Cycling and weight training were always part of my training and have been going on decades now. While I was never accomplished in the weight room (I did one powerlifting meet in my 20’s and have some Olympic Lifting Experience) I always loved the iron.
In my 20’s, I got involved with Dan Duchaine’s Bodyopus diet, a cyclical ketogenic diet surrounded by controversy. The Internet was growing and I had been a part of it since 1993 and I started doing more and more writing, culminating eventually in my first book The Ketogenic Diet, A Complete Guide. This was and will always be the textbook on the topic of low-carbohydrate diets and it can be found in libraries and universities in addition to the thousands of copies sold over the years.
Over the next 10+ years, I would dedicate myself to solving various problems related to diet and fat loss, along with athletic performance. My Guide to Flexible Dieting was the first book to discuss the topic of flexible dieting (from which If It Fits Your Macros, a current bandwagon derives).
My Rapid Fat Loss Handbook provides a scientific approach to crash dieting, ensuring maximal nutrition, minimal to no muscle loss and the ability to sustain the loss.
I’ve also written books aimed at the more advanced dieter. My Ultimate Diet 2.0 allows already lean dieters to reach the extremes of human leanness while gaining muscle. My Stubborn Fat Solution tackles the issue of stubborn abdominal and hip/thigh fat. That was a 10 year project.
I’ve also written about topics related to sports nutrition. My Protein Book is a complete work on the topic of protein nutrition for athletes. I also wrote a weird little drug booklet titled Bromocriptine that really dealt with bodyweight regulation.
For over 20 years I’ve dedicated every waking moment to the fitness, health and human performance field. I’ve been involved in most sports with my most recent adventure being 5.5 years spent in Salt Lake City Utah attempting to make the US Olympic Ice Speed Skating team/Olympic trials.
I’ve trained powerlifters, Olympic lifters and endurance athletes, prepped bodybuilders for shows along with helping thousands find TRUE solutions to losing fat and improving performance.
At the end of the day I believe in science, research and evidence and I am known for being able to take complex scientific information and making it understandable to those without a background. I don’t discount experience but anecdote and individual reports tend to carry little weight.
My journey continues and I have more projects in the wings. The fitness and health field choose me when I was about 16 and that’s almost all I’ve done or known for 25 years. My books are the fruit of that dedication and I hope you enjoy them.
