About the Author:
Mark Sisson is widely regarded as the founding father of the ancestral health movement. His number-one-ranked blog and Primal Health Coach Institute have paved the way for primal enthusiasts to take personal responsibility for their health. Known as a market-disrupting, innovative entrepreneur, Mark’s Primal Kitchen enterprise introduced healthy condiments to the marketplace for the first time, and was acquired by Kraft-Heinz in 2018. As one of the earliest proponents of barefoot-inspired living, Mark proceeded to launch Peluva five-toe minimalist footwear company (with his son Kyle) in 2021, and is now busy “changing the way the world walks.”
Mark, 71, has a BA in biology from Williams College and is a former world-class endurance athlete, with a 2:18 marathon and a fourth-place finish in the Hawaii Ironman World Triathlon Championships to his credit. Mark lives in Miami Beach, Florida, where enjoys Ultimate Frisbee, standup paddling, fat-tire beach bike rides, and a walking-oriented lifestyle.
Lindsay Shaw Taylor, Ph.D., is the Senior Writer and Researcher at Primal Blueprint Publishing and an expert on the primal/paleo and ketogenic diets and lifestyle. She was the lead recipe developer for The Keto Reset Diet (Mark Sisson and Brad Kearns, 2017) and is the author of several forthcoming keto cookbooks. Lindsay also spearheads the popular and ever-expanding Keto Reset community on Facebook, where she promotes a balanced and sensible approach to keto for overall health and vitality. An avid ultrarunner and triathlete, Lindsay also leads the Primal Endurance community on Facebook. There she helps athletes transition from carb-dependent sugar burners to fat-fueled machines through appropriate training and dietary modifications, strongly encouraging athletes to adopt real food fueling practices.
Lindsay earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Social and Personality Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2009. Her research focused on goal pursuit, self-presentation and self-evaluation, stigma, and online dating, and she is published in several top-tier psychological journals. Lindsay brings her expert knowledge to bear as the co-host of the Primal Blueprint Podcast keto shows and the Primal Endurance Podcast, where she frequently discusses the mental aspects of behavior change and the ways in which mindset affects success. She also appears as a featured expert in the Primal Endurance Mastery Course and the Keto Reset Mastery Course, online multimedia educational programs that bring the Primal Endurance and The Keto Reset Diet books to life.
Lindsay was first introduced to the primal/paleo lifestyle when her husband brought home a copy of a then-new book by Mark Sisson called The Primal Blueprint in 2009. They immediately started incorporating the Primal Blueprint diet and lifestyle laws into their lives. However, it wasn’t until 2011 when she started training for her first triathlon that everything really clicked for Lindsay. As a newbie endurance athlete, the benefits of the primal diet and lifestyle were undeniable, and she never looked back. Since then, Lindsay has competed in dozens of triathlons and running events, including numerous marathons (the most adventurous being the Great Wall of China Marathon) and ultramarathons up to 50 miles, and several half-ironman (70.3) distance triathlons and a full ironman (140.6). All of her training is conducted using a low-carb, high-fat (LCHF) diet and fueling strategy, and the aerobic training paradigm taught in Primal Endurance and by Dr. Phil Maffetone. When she began working for Primal Blueprint in 2015 through sheer serendipity, she had already been a devoted follower for years. She is now a passionate educator and advocate for ancestral health and lifestyle principles.
Lindsay resides in Northern California with her husband and sons, where the trails are plentiful and fresh local and organic produce abounds. Whenever possible, the Taylors escape to the mountains for hiking, camping, snowboarding, and swimming in mountain lakes.
Layla McGowan is an avid weightlifter who first began eating a ketogenic ancestral diet to help heal metabolic damage done by several years of calorie-restricted “IIFYM” (if it fits your macros) style dieting. Although she was lean and very active, she found herself feeling perpetually exhausted, suffered debilitating hip inflammation, experienced frequent bouts of inexplicable mood swings, and was unable to maintain her preferred body composition despite eating a very meager “clean” low-calorie diet. Eating ketogenically has allowed her to reverse her metabolic damage, reconnect with her body’s satiety cues, and fuel her performance without having to obsessively weigh, measure, and track every dollop of food.
She has a deep passion for cooking and has fond childhood memories of learning how to prepare traditional Korean dishes at the heels of her mother. She first began writing ketogenic recipes as a hobby born out of frustration over the glut of cheese-heavy, vegetable-sparse meals that typify run-of-the-mill ketogenic cooking. She is known for adapting ethnic dishes and creating colorful, nourishing meals.
You can interact directly with Layla on the Keto Reset Facebook group, where she is a moderator and loves to contribute to the thriving “keto tribe” by providing thoughtful advice about all aspects of ketogenic and Primal living or follow her training on Instagram @strong.and.wellfed.
